Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of med/surg experience and telemetry skills.

Details

Medical Surgical unit (6900 GI/GU) caring for patients with ostomies, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, and GU/medical overflow diagnoses.

High turnover surgical patient unit.

Patient ratios of 1:4-6.

Night shift schedule (3x12, 19:00-07:30).

Every other weekend required.

No on-call responsibilities.

Floating required within service line.

Centralized telemetry monitoring with basic telemetry knowledge preferred.

Unit administers Heparin, Lidocaine (pain only), Bicarb, Bivalirudin, and occasional stable non-titrated Amiodarone drips.

Manages PCAs, epidurals, and CBIs with various irrigation solutions.

Performs foley catheter care, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and TURP protocols.

Follows colorectal patient care protocols.

Uses Epic for charting.

Requirements

Active RN license (MO or compact, not tied to another compact state).

Current BLS and ACLS certification required.

BSN preferred.

Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required.

Epic charting experience required for first-time travelers.

Skilled in IV therapy and phlebotomy.

Experience with blood product administration.

Central line and PICC line blood draw and management.

Peripheral line care and management.

Colostomy/ileostomy management and care.

Feeding tube care and management.

Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) experience.

Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA.

Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias.

Telemetry remote monitoring experience.

Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias upon hire.

Travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted.

Additional Information

Provide excellent patient care with strong documentation skills and a team-oriented approach.

Work within a Magnet-designated, teaching, Level I Trauma Center.

Navy scrubs required.

Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility.

No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per contract, with no RTO during the first week of the assignment.

Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler.

Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service.

Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved.
