As a Central Sterile Processing Associate, you'll be an essential member of the surgical team, responsible for preparing and sterilizing the instruments that support life-changing procedures. With no prior experience required for entry-level roles and clear pathways for advancement within Central Sterile Processing and Surgical Services, this position offers both immediate impact and long-term career growth.

This position will work 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday with on call weekend and holiday coverage as needed. Training will be required for mid-shift, starting at either 9am or 10am. Shift times will be discussed in detail with the hiring manager.

Purpose: To be trained to perform duties necessary for the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• Prepares and assembles surgical tray and equipment.
• Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers.
• Maintains a working knowledge of, and is able to effectively troubleshoot, all decontamination/sterilization equipment.
• Assesses supplies required for prescribed standard surgical procedures and sets up case carts.
• Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
• Displays awareness of cost containment in the organization of work.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Develops and improves skills through initiative, attendance and participation at educational programs.
• Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities.

Qualifications include:

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent with no experience -OR-
• Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred -OR-
• 1 year of experience within UPMC
• If grandfathered as a technician who does not hold certification, must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
• Certified staff are required to complete 10-12 hours of continuing education as a condition of maintaining certification.
• Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.
