Engineering Manager

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with 5+ years of experience to lead a team of 5–10 engineers while staying deeply hands-on in the code. This is a 50/50 split between IC work and people management – you'll build core infrastructure horizontally across the company while owning performance reviews, mentorship, and hiring decisions for your direct reports. The ideal candidate is a senior or staff-level engineer who wants to step into management without leaving the codebase behind. You'll work directly alongside the CTO to offload engineering leadership and drive execution across critical systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience, with recent hands‑on coding (last 2 years) .
• Background at a VC‑backed startup (founding engineer or a company that raised ≥ $2.5 M) or experience at data‑scale firms
• Degree from a top‑30 US CS program (or an international degree with standout achievements).
• Full‑stack capability : Node.js or Python plus Kubernetes .
• Willing to work on‑site in SF five days a week .
• Eager to manage a team of 5–10 engineers , own performance reviews, mentorship, and conduct code & performance reviews.
• Proven ability to drive execution on ambiguous, fast‑moving projects in a high‑growth AI data‑infrastructure environment.
• Experience with Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch .

Responsibilities

• Manage 5–10 engineers with full ownership of performance reviews, mentorship, and career development
• Write production code and building core infrastructure horizontally across the platform
• Conduct design reviews and code reviews to maintain a high technical bar
• Participate in hiring loops – interviewing candidates, making final decisions, and shaping the engineering team
• Drive execution on ambiguous, fast-moving projects in a rapidly scaling AI data infrastructure company
