About The Role The role of the Medical Assistant is to provide both administrative and clinical support to the clinics. The Medical Assistant must be able to work independently as well as interact as part of a team, consistently demonstrating respect and consideration to fellow staff members. Certain duties may vary based on office location and department structure. What You’ll Be Doing Administrative tasks such as answering incoming phone calls, addressing patient requests, and scheduling appointments as needed. Contact patient no‑shows and reschedule appointments on an as‑needed basis, distribute patient records to the medical staff, prepare new patient charts, and ensure all medical information is accurate and available for review by proper personnel. Process outgoing patient referrals as required, checkout discharges of patients, and collect any necessary copayments. Ensure all supplies are properly stocked and maintain an effective work area. Schedule patient appointments and medical procedures (x-rays and diagnostic testing) using the EMR system as needed, and obtain surgical and diagnostic insurance authorizations. Prepare examination rooms and ensure the necessary supplies are readily available, also maintaining cleanliness of the rooms. Greet patients in the waiting area promptly, courteously, and helpfully, escort them to the lab or examination room, and assist them with placing personal belongings. Ensure any medications brought to the visit by the patient are placed in the patient’s chart. Verify patient’s history prior to seeing the physician. Obtain patient’s vital signs (weight, blood pressure, respiration, and pulse) and record them in the EMR. Assist the physician with office procedures, acting as a second pair of hands without administering medications. Collaborate with the RN’s and LPN’s to provide high‑quality patient care. Maintain working knowledge of OSHA compliance standards, apply these policies, and complete all required training and in‑services, including annual OSHA training and PPD placements in a timely manner. What We Expect From You High School graduate or equivalent (required). Medical Assistant degree from an accredited vocational institution or a community college course in Medical Assisting. Minimum of one (1) year of experience (preferred). Certified in Medical Assisting – strongly preferred. Travel to other clinics as needed. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out‑of‑the‑area and overnight travel may be expected.
