Environmental Service Technician Leader

Summary This position serves as the Environmental Services Technician Leader (Housekeeping Aid Leader) for the Environmental Management Service at Cincinnati VA Medical Center - under the supervision of the Hospital Housekeeping Officer. Qualifications To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 07/06/2026. A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Screen‑out element: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen‑out element, usually the first question in the online questionnaire. Applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and eliminated. Eligible applicants are then rated against the remainder of the job elements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs such as Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and other organizations. Volunteer work may provide credit toward required skills and experience. Physical requirements: Must be able to perform a full range of housekeeping duties and activities, including the use of all power equipment. The work requires continuous standing, walking, stooping, reaching, bending, and lifting. The position involves working with a variety of cleaning and disinfecting compounds and may expose the employee to water over extended periods. Working conditions: Work is usually in a well‑lighted, air‑conditioned building. The position requires continuous activity involving standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying. Duties Team leadership of 10–15 Housekeeping Aid WG‑1 and WG‑2 members, acting as project manager and alternate to the Housekeeping Aid supervisor on various shifts. Perform floor care, maintenance, and other housekeeping duties as assigned for the entire medical center. Provide cover as stand‑in shift supervisor during scheduled or unscheduled absence of first‑line supervisor. Receive general instruction from the Section Supervisor and pass on instructions to team members. Select and manage equipment and supplies, ensuring quality and production standards are maintained. Maintain and clean equipment before finishing tour of duty. Have thorough working knowledge of all housekeeping equipment. Assign employees on the team and select work sites by establishing work priorities. In the absence of the Supervisor, assume supervisory duties and report performance of team assignments to the Section Supervisor. Other duties as assigned. Work schedule: TBD based on service needs.
