Senior Accountant

Accounting PositionThis requisition expires on December 5, 2026, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date. Responsible for ensuring that financial reporting and project cost accounting is recorded accurately and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for the decision-making use of management and outside entities. Support audit coordination and the preparation of the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).Essential Functions and Other Important DutiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. DUTIESAdminister and coordinate activities of the City's grant fund operations, which includes developing, monitoring, enhancing, and maintaining all accounting functions related to grant and Project Accounting Systems.Perform professional accounting tasks such as maintaining and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting recordsPrepare periodic financial statements and reportsAnalyze and upgrade managerial accounting systems as necessary to ensure costs are monitored; coordinate Fund Accounting with division managers; provide necessary reports for managers to make informed financial decisionsMonitor and record bond project reportingResearch, analyze, and make recommendations to management regarding various issues such as conformance with city ordinances and policies, cost of production versus revenues recovered, productivity of work crews, etc.Review operations and budget funds to assure compliance with internal policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principlesPerform special projects as assigned, which require a high level of understanding of accounting theory and conceptsAdminister, coordinate, and review cost allocation studies prepared by outside agenciesContribute to and/or lead the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).Guide and support junior accountants.Stay current in Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements and changes in the accounting profession.SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES NoneOTHER DUTIES Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.Job RequirementsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or related field with an emphasis in Accounting; and, Four (4) years' experience in accounting, finance, or related field;OR Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or related field with an emphasis in Accounting; and, Two (2) years' experience in accounting, finance, or related field;OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must attend regularly scheduled and special meetings.
