Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2+ years of high-acuity PICU experience at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

Details

Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center within a 247-bed teaching hospital that is also a Chest Pain and Certified Stroke Center

24-bed PICU with an average census of 21-23 patients

Patient population includes respiratory, trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplant (kidney and liver), complex medical, and blood disorder cases

RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2

12-hour night shifts, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle

Weekend rotation required: 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays every 6-week schedule

No on-call requirements; if not needed in PICU, may be floated to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units

Floating required as needed to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Peds

Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

Active RN license (NC or Compact) required

Current BLS and PALS certification required

Minimum 2 years of strong, high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required

Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty, with most recent experience within the last year

Comfort working in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment required

Experience required with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), Belmont Rapid Infuser, and critical care vasoactive drip titration

Experience managing invasive lines (ART lines/CVP), ventilators, tracheostomies, and HFOV required

Skills required in chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation/analgesic drip management, Foley catheters, and feeding tubes

CRRT experience required

Experience with Alaris and Medfusion pump management required

Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

Provide critical care nursing to pediatric patients across a wide range of complex diagnoses and surgical needs

Perform bedside procedures with providers and manage discharge planning

Ability/competency to float to Pediatric CVICU discussed during interview

Unit supported by CNA/Health Care Tech, unit secretary, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, respiratory therapy, and in-house intensivist, residents, and APPs

Centralized and bedside patient monitoring used in place of a dedicated telemetry tech

Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays, with unit requirement of eve and day of every other holiday while contracted

RTO subject to manager approval
