Job Description

Veterinary Assistant, Full-Time
Pets First Veterinary Center · 924 East Haverford Road, Bryn Mawr, PA
$19 to $21 per hour, based on experience · Full-time: five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts per week

About Pets First
Pets First is an independent small animal practice in Bryn Mawr offering integrative and conventional medicine, including holistic care, acupuncture, raw food consultations, surgery, and modern diagnostics. We’re growing, and we’re building the systems and team to support that growth. Many of our clients have been with us for years, and we work hard to keep it that way.

How we work

• Best care, owner’s decision. We give owners real options, conventional and natural, explain them honestly, and respect their choice.
• The system runs the practice. We follow our protocols, document what we know, and fix the process instead of working around it.
• Loyal to long-term relationships. We go further for our clients than most practices do.
• Open to better answers. We evaluate our medicine and our methods on evidence and results, not habit.

What you’ll do

• Restrain and handle patients; perform nail trims, anal gland expression, and grooming
• Blood draws, sample collection, and IV catheter placement
• Monitor patients under anesthesia and during recovery
• Assist with surgery prep, dental cleanings, and radiographs
• Run in-house diagnostics
• Administer medications and fluids as directed by the veterinarian
• Open and close the hospital, prepare exam rooms, and keep the hospital clean throughout the day
• Keep the doctor informed on cases and relay the doctor’s instructions to clients and staff
• Keep accurate records and charges in ezyVet
• Support the doctor with case research by finding and summarizing relevant studies

How we measure success

• Accurate charges and complete medical records
• Consistent protocol adherence, including opening, closing, and surgery prep
• Clear, respectful client communication

What success looks like here
You keep the hospital running smoothly day to day. Patients are well cared for, rooms and records are in order, the doctor has what they need, and clients feel heard. You keep building your clinical skills along the way.

What we’re looking for

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Veterinary experience preferred; we will train the right person
• Openness to both conventional and natural approaches. You don’t need to agree with every option an owner chooses, but you do need to support their decision professionally.
• Curiosity and a willingness to learn our systems and help improve them
• Able to lift up to 80 pounds and work with animals that may bite or scratch

What we offer

• Paid time off
• A choice of shift structure: five 8-hour or four 10-hour shifts
• On-the-job training to build your clinical skills
• Modern technology and AI-assisted tools, including CoVet AI, to streamline your workflow
• Hands-on exposure to integrative medicine, including acupuncture and nutrition consultations
• A supportive, collaborative team
