Controller Consultant

About the Opportunity:
\nWe are partnering with a publicly traded life sciences organization seeking an experienced Controller Consultant to provide senior-level accounting leadership during a period of change. This consultant will work closely with executive leadership and serve as a key resource across public-company accounting, reporting, compliance, and other critical finance activities.
\n
\nThis is a highly visible, hands-on engagement for an experienced accounting leader who can bring strong technical expertise and sound judgment while working effectively within a lean environment. The ideal consultant is equally comfortable advising senior leadership and rolling up their sleeves to execute detailed accounting and reporting work.
\n
\n Duration: 9+ months
\n
\n Location: Remote (PST-based for occasional travel)
\n
\n Compensation: $110-$130/hr
\n Please note this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on qualifications and experience.
\n
\n Scope: \n

\n\t
• Provide hands-on Controller-level support across accounting, financial reporting, and close activities.\n\t
• Support SEC reporting and public-company compliance requirements.\n\t
• Assist with SOX-related activities and maintenance of an effective internal control environment.\n\t
• Research and address complex or non-routine accounting matters as they arise.\n\t
• Partner closely with executive leadership and key stakeholders on accounting and reporting priorities.\n\t
• Coordinate with internal resources and third-party providers to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.\n\t
• Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.\n\t
• Provide additional accounting leadership and execution support based on evolving business needs.\n

\n Qualifications & Expertise: \n\n

\n\t
• Significant Controller or comparable senior accounting leadership experience within a publicly traded pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences organization.\n\t
• Strong knowledge of SEC reporting and public-company financial reporting requirements.\n\t
• Solid understanding of SOX/404 controls and compliance practices; direct implementation experience is not required.\n\t
• Demonstrated ability to operate as a hands-on leader within a lean accounting organization rather than relying on a large supporting team.\n\t
• Experience navigating complex accounting matters and organizational or finance-function transitions.\n\t
• Royalty revenue accounting experience is highly preferred.\n\t
• Exposure to tax considerations involving royalties or similar revenue arrangements is a plus.\n\t
• Strong executive communication skills with the ability to work directly with senior leadership and external service providers.\n\t
• Ability to travel to southern California for targeted in-person transition meetings as needed.\n
