Staff Machine Learning and Bioinformatics Scientist (Multi-Cancer Early Detection)

Natera seeks a Staff Machine Learning and Bioinformatics Scientist to develop novel statistical and ML methods for detecting multiple cancers from blood samples. The role involves leading model development on multi-modal genomic datasets, driving research from prototype through clinical validation, and mentoring junior scientists.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of statistical and machine learning methods for cancer signal detection from multi-modal genomic data
• Build interpretable, well-calibrated models with strong uncertainty estimation and reproducibility standards
• Prototype, test, and productionize ML models using scalable infrastructure
• Collaborate with molecular biologists and clinical scientists on experiment design and validation studies
• Mentor junior scientists and drive code and design reviews across projects

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or related quantitative field with 6-12 years post-PhD experience
• Hands-on experience developing novel statistical and ML methods for complex biological data
• Proven track record of technical leadership in method development projects
• Expertise in deep learning and multimodal foundation models
• Proficiency in Python and scientific computing ecosystem
• Strong scientific rigor and collaborative approach across teams
• Familiarity with DNA methylation, epigenomic data, or cell-free DNA preferred
