Incumbent receives general direction from the school principal./ppReports to: Principal and School Health Supervisor./ppEducation, Certification, and Experience: At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:/pulliGraduate of a diploma, program, holding an associate degree or baccalaureate degree in nursing./liliRegistered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland./liliPrior experience as a school nurse preferred./liliValid Maryland drivers license./liliCurrent cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification./li/ulpKnowledge, Abilities, and Skills: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have:/pulliAbility to understand and communicate with both verbal and written skills./liliAbility to learn operation of office machines and audio-visual devices./liliSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable./li/ulpEssential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:/pulliServes as Substitute School Nurse for Calvert County Public Schools./liliAdministers medications from physicians orders (orally, parentally, nasogastric, or gastrostomy tube)./liliMaintains medication records and reports adverse reactions or contraindications to the physician or County Health Nurse (CHN)./liliManages and provides health room services, including first aid and CPR, according to established procedures./liliPerforms medical procedures ordered by students physicians (catheterization, ostomy care, suctioning, glucose testing, and other approved procedures)./liliProvides guidance and counseling in the area of health to students, staff, and parents according to professional standards./liliMaintains accurate nurses notes and records, including summaries of services provided./liliReports all cases of diagnosed or suspected communicable disease to CHN./liliMaintains an inventory of health room supplies./liliReports environmental conditions which may adversely affect the safety and health of the students and staff to CHN./liliPerforms other duties assigned by the principal and reviewed with CHN./li/ulpOther Duties: Performs related work as required or assigned by the building principal or designee and reviewed with the CHN./ppPhysical Demands: Work requires light physical effort. Tasks may include assisting children and moving equipment./ppTerms of Employment: Temporary Substitute assignment. Hours reimbursed at current substitute nurse pay rate.
