Avantes is a technology and market leader in the field of fiber optic spectroscopy. Headquartered in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands Avantes has been serving the spectroscopy and photonics markets for 28 years. Avantes works with a variety of industries ranging from Medtech and Semiconductor to Agriculture and LIghting. Avantes North American operation is based in Lafayette, CO and is seeking to fill a position for a Sales Application Engineer to support our growth plans for North America.

Avantes prefers to hire a local candidate for this position and so candidates residing in the general vicinity of Denver or Boulder, CO will be considered before candidates outside the area. No relocation package will be available for this position.

Summary:

This is a mid-level position in our North American sales team. The position is principally dedicated to sales, technical support and account management to industrial, OEM and research customers of our fiber optic spectrometers and accessories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Successfully work independently with general direction only.

Generate and follow up on sales leads.

Conduct prospecting activities to develop new customer opportunities.

Maintain a customer contact database using Salesforce CRM software.

Prepare accurate and timely quotes and follow up on quotes.

Support technical and applications questions from customers.

Attend and represent Avantes at trade shows, sales events, and customer visits.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. 

Up to 25% overnight travel is required. Annual international travel to Avantes HQ required.

Prepare sales forecasts

Maintain sales funnels and pipelines within Salesforce CRM software.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or Physics; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two years experience with sales and account management of technical products. Experience with scientific instrument sales is highly desirable. Spectroscopy knowledge or experience is also highly desirable.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Fluency in Spanish desirable but not required.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentage, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to analyze data sets in numerical and graphical formats.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Familiarity with CRM software (Salesforce.com) & database management.
