Job Overview Registered Nurse 2 – Full Time-Permanent (swing) – Spokane Veterans Home – Spokane, WA. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Job Description Help us fulfill our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" by providing essential quality of life care for Veterans. As a Registered Nurse 2, you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing‑related care to vulnerable Veterans, lend direction and a caring attitude to patients, and monitor residents with activities of daily living based on current nursing standards of practice. Responsibilities Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures. Administer medications and treatments for residents unable to do their own or monitor self‑pour medications of residents. Maintain incident log and provide learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on unit. Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents' needs and requirements in a respectful and homelike environment. Maintain open communication and information‑sharing with staff. Assist in the presentation of training materials to staff. Perform nursing assessments of residents as necessitated by the condition of the resident, and on a quarterly basis for the completion of the Minimum Data Set. Assume responsibility for self‑development by awareness of new techniques and medications. Make rounds on a regular basis to ensure compliance with expectations of the unit. Hold the staffing book as assigned. And more! Qualifications Required: Currently holds a valid RN license from the State of Washington. One year of professional nursing experience. Must be able to use accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care; personal hygiene and sanitation methods, record keeping, report preparation, infection control procedures and resident rights. Must be able to assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care. Plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate. Perform selected nursing procedures. Must be proficient in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English. Preferred/Desired: One year of experience as an RN. Must be able to provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs; follow written and verbal directions; document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior. Must be able to earn trust, respect and confidence of residents, coworkers and customers through consistent honesty, forthrightness and professionalism in all interactions. Serve as an effective and positive role model to staff. Long‑term care experience. Special Requirements Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing. Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Remain current on CPR. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday. Must maintain a valid practical nursing license from the State of Washington Department of Health. Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed. Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in‑service, and other required training. Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable. Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees. Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business. Benefits 24‑7 Facility Differential: Eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees receive a supplemental basic shift premium of $1.00 per hour of basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. The supplemental premium is not applicable to overtime hours and expires on June 29, 2027. Health, Medicare, and Medicaid nursing home care is provided through the Washington State Veterans Homes. Employees and families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. Employees may enroll each year in a medical flexible spending account. Retirement and Deferred Compensation: State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer‑contributed retirement programs and may participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). Social Security: All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems; the state and employee pay an equal amount into the system. Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Eligible employees may receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Paid Holidays: Full‑time and part‑time employees are entitled to paid holidays plus one paid personal holiday per calendar year. Unions may provide additional leave days per collective bargaining agreements. Sick Leave: Full‑time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Pro‑rated accrual for part‑time employees. Overtime‑eligible and exempt employees accrue accordingly. Vacation (Annual Leave): Accrual rates followed per WAC 357‑31‑165(1) or applicable collective bargaining agreements. Pro‑rated for part‑time employees. Military Leave: Washington State provides 21 days paid military leave per year. Bereavement Leave: Employees entitled to five (5) days of paid bereavement leave for loss of a family or household member or pregnancy loss. Additional Leave: Leave sharing, parental leave, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and leave without pay are available per state guidelines.
