Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. They participate in the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key responsibility. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This role aligns with the Nurse Practice Act, policies, Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients. They serve as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse based on unit assignment and safety considerations. Education of patients and families in health promotion and disease management is essential. The RN utilizes knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications. Responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing and supplies, is shared. Compliance with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies is necessary. The RN actively participates in the Nursing Shared Governance Model and improvement initiatives. Engagement in professional development and completing all mandatory education requirements is expected. Integration of nursing research and evidence into practice is fundamental. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is part of the role. The RN will adhere to core values and perform other duties as assigned.
