Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment

Under the supervision of the Managing Counsel- Labor & Employment, this attorney provides advice on employment-related matters and compliance efforts, conducts investigations, handles administrative claims before various state and federal agencies, and assists with employment-related litigation. This counsel is also expected to assist with or conduct training for non-lawyers on employment related matters as well as draft and negotiate employment and separation agreements. This position is collaborative with teams beyond Legal and will require partnership with various business and corporate stakeholders. Specific Duties & Job Responsibilities Manages employment-related matters and provides labor and employment advice to internal clients. Manages outside counsel assisting on employment-related litigation. Primarily responsible to manage and handle routine administrative claims before various state and federal agencies with oversight for employment-related matters, including wage and hour claims, charges of discrimination, claims for retaliatory discharge, and similar disputes. Gathers evidence through document reviews and interviews to formulate defense in litigation or to initiate legal action necessary to protect the company. Researches and interprets employment-related laws, rulings and regulations impacting the business. Provides advice, counsel and training to HR personnel and other non-lawyer staff on topics such as employment contracts, termination and discipline issues for employees and supervisors, sexual harassment and diversity issues, and conducting internal investigations. Provides ad hoc L&E support to specific business divisions. Experience in niche areas like employment on federal/state government subcontracting programs or within regulated healthcare settings (or a willingness to learn such subject matter areas) are a plus. Reviews and assists with discovery requests associated with employment-related litigation, and reviews and comments on briefs and motions prepared by outside counsel. Attends depositions, mediations, hearings and trials; and in some instances, serves as the primary lead attorney on such proceedings. Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization. Must be comfortable leading discussions with customer legal teams. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Juris Doctor degree and member in good standing of at least one state bar (Georgia preferred). 3-5 years of prior labor and employment experience as a licensed attorney.
