Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience License: LA License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU level RN experience NIHSS experience CVL management/placement Foley catheter management Tube feedings via NGT or PEG Arterial line management Diabetes management Drip titration experience (Levophed, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin) Ability to pass an EKG competency exam Description: The role involves caring for patients with CVA and TIA conditions. Adequate PPE is provided. The patient-to-RN ratio is 1:3. The CNA ratio is 1:6. A charge nurse will take a patient assignment depending on staffing. There is no phlebotomy on the unit. A VAT team is available for PICC and midline placement. Resource nursing support is available. RT, hospitalists, OT, PT, and ST support are available 24/7. The charting system is Meditech Expanse. IV Pumps used are Alaris. Medications are dispensed via Pyxis. Floating to stepdown and med-surg units will occur frequently. Weekend rotation is every other weekend. Staff will work a mandatory schedule of 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Requests for time off must not exceed 7 days without extending the contract. Only one weekend of time off can be requested per 13-week contract. Staff will work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Professionalism is mandatory. Cell phone usage in patient care areas is prohibited. Earbuds are not allowed, and eating at the desk is prohibited. Scrub color is pewter, with T-shirts in gray, white, or black permissible, featuring a specified monogram. Jackets must be gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times.
