About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - SICU/ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: SICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Stroke experience Ventilator management Assistance with intubation/extubation Centrally inserted catheter management and placement Foley catheter management Tube feeding management via NGT or PEG Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: The unit has 10 beds. Patients may include those with respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, renal failure, diabetes, neuro issues such as craniotomies and TBI, and surgical patients including general, total joints, urology, and neuro cases. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. Resource nurses are available for support. There is no phlebotomy on the unit. An IV/VAT team is available for PICC and midline placements. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. A hospitalist is in-house. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy services are available. Charting is completed using an electronic medical record system. Nurses may float to stepdown, stroke units, or medical-surgical units as needed. A weekend rotation is required, working every other weekend. The schedule consists of 4 days one week and 3 days the next week, which is mandatory. Requests for time off are limited to one weekend per 13-week contract, and a maximum of 7 days off must extend the contract for full weeks. Nurses are expected to work 2 to 3 major holidays during the assignment. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement. There is a strict no cell phone usage policy in patient care areas, and earbuds are prohibited. Eating at the desk is not allowed.
