Maintenance Manager

Department: Maintenance/Engineering
Location: Carol Stream, IL
Type: Full-time

Summary:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and developing the maintenance team to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, utilities, and facility assets. This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to support production goals, resolve equipment-related issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Manager oversees preventive maintenance programs, manages department budgets and resources, monitors key performance indicators, and identifies opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and control costs. Additionally, this position serves as a key liaison between Maintenance and Engineering to coordinate contractor activities, capital projects, and strategic maintenance initiatives that support the site's long-term operational objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Productivity

• Lead and manage the maintenance team responsible for the repair and upkeep of production equipment and utility systems.
• Prioritize, plan, schedule and direct maintenance, repair, and installation activities to ensures safe and reliable operations.
• Administer and continuously improve the preventive maintenance (PM) program through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate documentation and record keeping.
• Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPI's) to drive accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvements.
• Utilize Lean / Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), 6-Sigma methodologies to improve equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
• Support the planning and successful execution of capital projects.

Leadership

• Provide strong leadership by fostering a positive, productive, and engaging work environment.
• Coach, mentor, and develop employees to enhance performance, skills and career growth.
• Complete quarterly performance reviews and related documentation accurately, and in a timely and professional manner.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to promote teamwork, operational efficiency, and company values.
  • Model and reinforce a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a a technical discipline from an accredited college or university (preferred); equvilent education and relevant work experience will be considered.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive maintenance leadership experience with a demonstrated history of increased responsibilities.
• Working knowledge and/or specialized technical training in the following industrial systems and processes (certifications preferred), including:
  • Electrical systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Natural gas systems
  • Mechanical systems (e.g., pumps, motors, bearings, etc.)
  • PLC controls & VFD's
  • Boilers and air compressors
  • HVAC systems
  • Welding (preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Effective time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing business needs.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and make sound operational decisions
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to collaborate across departments

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
• Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
• Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
• Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting
• Ability to stand for an extended periods of time
• Must be able to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask
• Ability to work in a packaging area with a moderate powder substance in the air with or without a respirator
• Ability to work above shoulders
• Other physical requirements include frequent squatting, bending, twisting, and bi-lateral wrist movement
• Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
• Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
