Role Description The Labor and Delivery Nurse is a full-time, on-site role based at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. This role provides direct, evidence-based nursing care to patients during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period, supporting safe, person-centered experiences for birthing patients and families. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing patients, monitoring maternal and fetal status, administering medications and interventions, collaborating with obstetric and neonatal teams, and assisting with labor support and delivery procedures. The nurse will educate patients and families on care plans, postpartum recovery, and newborn care, while ensuring documentation accuracy, adherence to safety and infection control standards, and participation in quality improvement initiatives. The role also involves responding to emergent situations, using sound clinical judgment, and supporting a respectful, inclusive environment. Qualifications Strong clinical expertise in Labor and Delivery Nursing and Labor and Delivery care, including intrapartum and postpartum support. Solid foundation in Nursing practice and Medicine, with the ability to apply evidence-based guidelines in obstetric settings. Demonstrated Critical Thinking skills for rapid assessment, prioritization, and response to changing patient conditions. Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana (or eligibility for licensure), with BLS and NRP certifications; ACLS and obstetric specialty certification (e.g., RNC-OB) preferred. Previous experience in labor and delivery, mother-baby, or women's health strongly preferred; new graduates with relevant clinical rotations may be considered. Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, communicate clearly with patients and families, and maintain accurate, timely documentation.
