RECREATION LEADER - Part Time

JOB SUMMARY This position performs under the general direction of the Recreation Facilities Manager (RFM) or Recreation Area Manager (RAM). This position is responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day operations of a regional recreation center and provides optimal guest/resident relations. Manages all operations including part-time staff training and development at their assigned regional recreation complex. Provides technical and physical assistance (i.e., supporting staff in setting up and breaking down meeting rooms, providing technical support for all A/V equipment required, meeting with customers to produce electronic room diagram producing reports, and covering unexpected absences). Oversees programming at assigned center in differing capacities, including coordinating events with Media, Maintenance, Entertainment, and Special Events departments. Plan and implement indoor and outdoor recreational activities and educate staff and residents on department programs and policies. Provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere which encourages residents and guests to participate in recreation activities and promotes a safe, hospitable recreation environment. Ensure the conformance of Recreation Department and District policies at Recreation centers by following the required protocols and procedures.

- Assists in supervising activity or recreation staff and volunteers including work schedules, time off, vacations, daily walk through of facility, assist in the day-to-day operations including the printing and posting of daily schedules of events, planned lessons, socials, and special events.
- Performs routine administrative duties including monitoring budget and program recordkeeping.
- Be competent in all tasks performed by Recreation Assistants for better communication and task management.
- Designs and prepare computerized room layouts for scheduled events and club meetings and interact with event representatives to make sure they are satisfied.
- Implements Resident Lifestyle and Special Events policies.
- Handle conflicts and complaints to resolve and work towards a successful resolution with residents and staff.
- Interact and communicate with various volunteer groups and staff daily.
- Build a strong rapport with club/event contacts to ensure policy updates are practiced consistently with all activities.
- Instruct verbally and through demonstrations individuals and / or groups in lessons, and rules and regulations of sport activities as needed.
- Maintains continuous training for all Recreation Assistants on use and maintenance of equipment and required forms.
- Conduct room inspections prior to and after meetings to ensure everything is in safe working condition.
- Maintain knowledgeable of all recreation centers clubs, leagues, and recreation activities, and be present and accessible to ensure optimal customer service.
- Be at work ready to start promptly at the scheduled shift beginning, complete assigned shifts as an active team member.
- Abides by department dress code at all times, wearing proper attire to perform all job duties.
- Stay current with District and Department policies and changes/updates to ensure the ability to abide by and enforce same as it relates to daily duties and responsibilities.
- Assists in answering telephone calls by identifying self and facility and provide information about the recreation facility and social events to residents and guests.
- Assist RFM/RAM and performs other special assignments and tasks required as assigned by Director of Recreation, Recreation Managers, RAM, RFM, Recreation Area Supervisor, and Recreation Supervisor.
- Travel to other Recreation locations at department's request due to business needs.
- Ability to work after hours and weekends to ensure optimal customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate with the Entertainment Department and catering for event setups.
- Plans, implements and evaluates recreational programs working within budget.
- Plans and schedules resident activities (leagues, lessons, socials, Senior Games, and Lifestyle Events, etc.)
- Coordinates events with The Villages media (WVLG, Daily Sun and VNN), volunteers and resident lifestyle volunteer groups.
- Registers residents and guests in Recreation software for lifestyle events/socials.
- Interacts and coordinates cooperatively with maintenance, Special Events, and Entertainment departments, Media, The Enrichment Academy, volunteers and resident lifestyle volunteer groups on planned events.
- Assists with issuing Guest ID's, trail fees, and registering residents/guests in Recreation software for lifestyle events/socials.
- Follow required ID protocol for residents and/or guests by checking and recording all resident IDs and guest passes upon their entrance to pool and at scheduled events by using scanner and/or manual count methods.
- Follow District incident reporting protocols for all incidents related to self, residents and/or guests, including but not limited to health, safety, lost items and/or facility conditions by reporting same immediately to the RFM/RAM at the time of such incident, or no later than the end of an assigned shift.
- Assists the RFM/RAM in reviewing timesheets to verify Recreation Assistants' work hours.
- Assists RFM/RAM with assigned paperwork including but not limited to verification of non-compliance, timely submission of walk-through forms, 90-minute pool checks, and activity counts for all activities.
- Maintains recordkeeping, either manual or via computer, as directed and within designated timeframes. Recordkeeping may include, but not limited to, entering attendance data in Event Setup Reports or other such department forms.
- Performs monthly maintenance checks on facilities as assigned.
- Maintains inventory and order equipment and supplies, on weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
- Promptly provide all requested forms to the appropriate party on time.
- Inventory all Recreation center's supplies for both administrative and recreational activities and advise RFM or RAM of replenishment needs within specified timeline.
- Follows cash handling procedures for collecting monies.
- Assists in training new Recreation Assistants in all phases of their job descriptions including room set up and break down, training on sports, socials, computers and District policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.

- Associate's Degree in Recreation & Parks Management, Leisure Studies or related field or six months to one-year related experience and/or training in lieu of education.
- Valid Florida Driver's License required.
- CPR/AED Training must be completed within six months of hire.
- All candidates and employees must successfully pass background screening.
- Proven intermediate or better proficiency in personal computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel (formulas), Outlook, recordkeeping, routine date base activity, graphics, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Well organized and able to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment to meet multiple demanding deadlines.
- Ability to frequently throughout the course of daily duties successfully lift and/or carry such items as chairs (approximately 18 pounds), tables (approximately 50 pounds), sports equipment, furniture, etc.
- Ability to supervise and direct the selection, training, development, and appraisal of personnel.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence to managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute, rate, ratio, and percentage, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to provide optimal customer service.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, after hours, and a willingness to work and/or substitute at various locations.
- Ability to work independently and to successfully open and close a recreation center, which may include working with limited natural light sources depending on time of day/year.
- Recreation equipment including but not limited to sports equipment, scanners, sound and lighting equipment, LED projectors, A/C regulators, etc.
- Office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, and productivity software.
- District vehicle (truck, car, or golf cart).
- Report facility issues, defects, and problems to the RFM/RAM and monitor progress of requested repairs, supply orders, etc.
- Monitor AC/heating temperatures for consistent comfort of residents, guests and staff.
- Monitor vehicle maintenance for RFM/RAM, including fluids, fuel, tire condition, regular oil changes, windshield wipers, etc.
- Responsible for monitoring inventory, routine maintenance, and safety inspections of recreation facilities and equipment.
- Be proficient in the use of all recreation equipment including, but not limited to, sports equipment, lighting and sound equipment, LED projectors, A/C regulators, etc.
- Maintain continuing training for all Recreation Assistants on use of equipment, required forms, and maintenance of equipment.
- Monitors inventory, routine maintenance, and safety inspections of recreation facilities and equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to the following:
- Exposed to noise level in the environment that is usually moderate.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
- Interior office environments with moderate to loud noise typical for the work environment i.e., when in office setting with moderate noise of computers and printers and moderate customer traffic.
- Some after hours and weekend scheduling may be required to help with Senior Games, Lifestyle Events, Global Events; position must maintain a 40-hour work week.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, push/pull, use hands/fingers, reach forward and overhead, kneel, stoop, twist, squat, sit, balance.
- Occasionally required to climb stairs, crawl.
- Required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
