Hanson Values Integrity | Commitment | Quality | Relationships | Innovation A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Engineer at Hanson As a key player in our team, your responsibilities will include: Designing, analyzing, and optimizing HVAC systems for a variety of settings, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Developing comprehensive plans, specifications, and drawings for HVAC and plumbing systems, focusing on critical details such as ductwork, piping layouts, equipment selection, and sizing calculations. Conducting site visits to evaluate existing HVAC and plumbing systems, pinpointing deficiencies, and recommending cost-effective upgrades or replacements. Performing thorough facilities condition assessments, particularly for government and military facilities, with a strong focus on HVAC and plumbing systems. Collaborating seamlessly with architects, contractors, and various stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into building designs and renovation projects. Utilizing advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools to model and simulate HVAC and plumbing systems. Preparing detailed written reports and presentations that summarize your findings, recommendations, and project progress for various stakeholders. Providing accurate cost estimates using industry-standard cost estimation databases. Staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting HVAC and plumbing systems. Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time as required. What We're Looking For To thrive in this role, we believe the following qualifications will set you up for success: Education/Experience Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 7 years of experience in the consulting professional services industry, focusing on Mechanical Engineering. Active licensure as a professional engineer. Skills Proven technical experience in the preparation of HVAC and plumbing construction drawings, specifications, submittal reviews, and construction administration. Experience conducting facilities condition assessments for HVAC and plumbing systems. Strong understanding of relevant building codes, standards, and regulations pertaining to mechanical systems (e.g., ASHRAE, International Mechanical Code). Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT software packages. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and assume leadership responsibilities while guiding CAD/Revit technicians and other engineers/designers. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with energy analysis tools, such as ComCheck and FLACOM EnergyGauge, along with load calculation software like Trane Trace 700 or similar applications. Preferred candidates should have the capability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance, though this is not required. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $145,000 annually, with potential eligibility for annual discretionary bonuses.
