The City of Kentwood is seeking a Manager on Duty to support our Parks & Recreation Department on an irregular part-time basis. In this role, you’ll help oversee daily recreation facility operations while ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all visitors. You’ll serve as a key point of contact during facility hours—supporting programs and events, assisting patrons, and ensuring operations run smoothly. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, takes initiative, and thrives in a fast-paced, community-focused environment. What You’ll Do Supervise daily recreation facility operations and ensure safe, appropriate use of all spaces Open and close facilities following established procedures Provide excellent customer service to patrons in person, by phone, and via email Assist with registrations, memberships, reservations, and payments Support programs and events, including setup and teardown of equipment and spaces Conduct routine walkthroughs to monitor cleanliness, safety, and maintenance needs Perform basic custodial tasks to maintain a clean and organized facility Handle cash transactions and complete daily financial balancing Enforce facility policies and respond to incidents, accidents, and emergencies Serve as a point of contact for participants, volunteers, and community groups Complete reports such as attendance logs, incident reports, and daily activity records About You You’re dependable, observant, and customer-focused, with the ability to take initiative and manage responsibilities independently. You’re comfortable handling a variety of tasks—from customer service to facility oversight—and can stay calm and professional in busy or unexpected situations. High school diploma or GED One year of experience in recreation, facility operations, or customer service Experience handling cash or working with point-of-sale systems Ability to obtain CPR, AED and First Aid Certification within six months of employment Ability to work independently and make sound decisions Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds Free CPR training opportunities for eligible employees Opportunities for continued involvement in seasonal and recreation programming Why join the Kentwood Parks and Recreation team: The Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department enriches the lives of community members through recreational classes, programs, and activities.
