Controller

A manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for overseeing the general ledger, managing the month-end close process, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. The ideal candidate will bring a hands‑on leadership style, a strong understanding of manufacturing operations, and the ability to partner cross‑functionally to support business decisions and drive operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Close Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial results Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP Maintain integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and trial balances Ensure accurate balance sheet and income statement reporting Manufacturing & Cost Accounting Oversight Oversee cost accounting functions, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis Partner with operations to analyze production costs, margins, and efficiencies Monitor and improve processes related to inventory controls and tracking Support budgeting and forecasting related to manufacturing operations Internal Controls & Compliance Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies Ensure compliance with GAAP and company procedures Coordinate and lead external audits and support internal audit processes Oversee tax and regulatory reporting in coordination with external advisors Leadership & Business Partnership Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team Partner with leadership, operations, and FP&A to support strategic decision‑making Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business growth Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CMA preferred) 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting Experience with cost accounting, inventory, and standard costing Proven ability to manage month-end close and internal controls Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills Ability to operate in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment Compensation & Benefits Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
