Certifications: Certification by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or as Central Board of Sterile Processing Departments (CBSPD)

Must-Have: Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of formal education and experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred

Description:Reports to the Central Processing Department Director and is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs for staff that are competency-based.Recommends improvements in the quality of services provided by the Central Processing Department.Serves as a resource to staff.Implements all aspects of the training and orientation program, including job shadowing and teaching formal classes as part of orientation programs for new employees and affiliating students.Performs systematic follow-up procedures with all trainees and orientees to ensure competency of basic Central Processing skills and adequate integration into their particular technical role.Provides feedback on the performance of trainees and recommends continuation of employment.Prepares and trains new Central Processing Department staff to ensure that practices and policies are followed.Identifies skill sets and follows up with appropriate plans.Demonstrated ability to evaluate and interview job candidates and make recommendations regarding fit for the organization and unit.Coordinates with relevant staff to schedule and administer new employee and/or student clinical rotations.Applies principles of adult learning effectively.Demonstrates analytical ability to solve technical clinical issues, conduct quality improvement, and research utilization projects.Possesses advanced interpersonal and writing skills to develop and conduct educational programs, presentations, and communicate with interdisciplinary teams.Exhibits basic computer proficiency relevant to accessing and entering data from computerized information systems.Demonstrates organizational skills to set priorities and complete assigned work efficiently.Evaluates the clinical technical competence of trainees and probationary employees.Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills in English.Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities of the position.Evaluates and assesses the department to develop training programs.Tracks, analyzes, and reports on enrollment, completion patterns, and other related activities to training, developing base data, and using statistical tables and graphic displays of database information.Educates staff on new technologies, changes in policies and procedures, and evaluates the effectiveness of such innovations.Coordinates educational programs such as Competency Program, Orientation, and In-service Programs, maintaining employee records.Monitors the progress of education and completion of technicians preparing for certification exams and maintaining certification.Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills to interface effectively with staff and customers and to conduct group and individual instruction.Provides effective feedback to learners constructively, enhancing self-esteem.Assists in maintaining relevant standards.Develops, implements, reviews, and revises annual competency programs for employees.Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate high-quality, cost-effective educational programs for staff.Serves as a liaison between departments to establish collaborative programs.Utilizes incident reporting systems for trending areas in need of improvement.Follows up on incident report communications to assist in developing root cause analyses and recommend resolutions.Remains knowledgeable of unit-based quality improvement projects and assists in developing training plans to address findings.Utilizes quality improvement and evidence-based findings to enhance processes.Demonstrates critical thinking and conducts research appropriately using evidence-based resources.Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge and competency in relevant technology and standards as well as additional regulated practices related to sterilization.Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge of adult education theory and teaching methods.Provides assistance on special projects and coordination of initiatives as requested.Attends required meetings.Follows established infection control and safety procedures.Performs other duties as assigned or necessary.Provides educational support to employees on all shifts and weekends.Adheres to behavioral standards.
