Your day, building precision

From the moment you step into the die room, you own the setup and operation of the equipment that turns raw stock into precision parts. You review drawings and samples, plan your sequence of operations, and select the right machine for the task. Over the course of a shift, you may run Engine lathe(s), EDM, Drill Press(s), a Shaper, Mattison grinder, Saw, Manual Bridge Port, Horizontal Mill, CNC Lathes, Mills, 5-Axis equipment, and a Boring Mill to produce quality tooling and components.

With micrometers, calipers, and other gages in hand, you verify dimensions and keep output on spec, discarding defects when required. You watch machine, tooling, and cutting fluid levels, keep lubrication and coolant tanks topped off, and empty chip buckets as needed. Between runs, you mark material for cutting and shaping, clean your station and equipment, and follow all plant safety rules. You wrap up by documenting relevant job information and taking on other duties as assigned.

Scope and responsibilities

• Full setup and operation of all die room machinery
• Produce and repair parts on Engine lathe(s), EDM, Drill Press(s), Shaper, Mattison grinder, Saw, Manual Bridge Port, Horizontal Mill, CNC Lathes, Mills, 5-Axis, and Boring Mill
• Read samples, drawings, and instructions to define output specifications
• Take measurements, mark material, and plan the sequence of actions to complete each job
• Use micrometers, calipers, and other gages to confirm conformance to specifications
• Monitor output and scrap defects that do not meet standards
• Monitor machine, tooling, and cutting fluid levels; maintain lubrication and coolant tanks; empty chip buckets
• Keep work area, machines, tools, and equipment clean and orderly
• Follow all safety and plant rules and regulations
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervision : This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus
• Minimum Four years related experience and/or training preferred

Key competencies

Communication

• Read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Effectively report relevant data and job-specific information

Mathematics

• Comfort with intermediate to advanced math

Computer

• Ability to navigate basic technology, including digital self-service tools, time clocks, and related systems

Additional preferred experience

• Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail
• Knowledge of metal properties and other material
• Familiarity with lock out/tag out as an authorized user
• Experience operating an overhead crane
• Satisfactory completion of Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test

Physical demands

• Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
• Use carts, dollies, cranes, and jacks to move material as needed
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs
• Tolerate potential temperature extremes influenced by weather and machinery
• Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels
• Wear and follow PPE requirements, including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards

Work environment

Work alongside historic machinery and around heat, noise, debris, overhead cranes, and other potentially hazardous equipment. Expect periods of heavy floor and overhead traffic for material movement, which can introduce vibration and airborne disturbances.
