Position Summary

The Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) is the face of our Group Fitness team and plays a vital role in driving member engagement, retention, and brand experience. The GFI leads members in a group environment through safe, effective, and high-energy fitness classes that reflect the Crunch “No Judgments” philosophy.

This role is responsible for delivering exciting and challenging group fitness classes while building strong member relationships and promoting additional club services. The GFI exhibits a passion for small group and class-based training and maintains a consistently high level of energy and professionalism.

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt (hourly position; eligible for overtime in accordance with federal and state law).

Core Responsibilities

Class Instruction & Delivery

• Instruct a variety of group exercise classes for members of all fitness levels.
• Lead safe, effective, and engaging workouts with proper form demonstration and cueing.
• Maintain high energy and stage presence throughout each class.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of fitness equipment and exercise techniques.
• Ensure proper warm-up, cooldown, and progression within each session.

Member Engagement & Brand Representation

• Build supportive and motivating rapport with members and guests.
• Create a welcoming and inclusive environment consistent with Crunch’s mission.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the Crunch brand and model behavior in accordance with the company mission statement.
• Actively promote other group fitness classes and personal training programs.
• Contribute to member retention through positive and consistent engagement.

Operational Excellence & Compliance

• Maintain all mandatory education certifications and continuing education requirements.
• Follow all instructor sign-in and sign-out procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of training rooms and studio spaces.
• Understand and follow all club policies, procedures, and operational standards.
• Attend all required club and team meetings.
• Execute additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Experience teaching exercise classes for clients of all levels.
• Current CPR/AED Certification.
• Nationally accredited group fitness certification (AFAA, ACE, NASM preferred).
• Valid Yoga or Pilates certifications acceptable (if applicable to class format).
• Strong member service skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and stage presence.
• Ability to motivate and energize a diverse membership base.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position:

• Prolonged periods of standing and active instruction.
• Frequent demonstration of exercises including bending, squatting, lifting, and reaching.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Exposure to loud music and amplified sound systems.
• Ability to observe participants for safety and technique correction.

Reporting Structure

• Reports directly to the General Manager and/or Group Fitness Director (if applicable).
• Works collaboratively with Fit Fusion leadership and club team members.
