Mechanical & Robotics Technician (RME)

This role supports the operations and maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing material handling equipment, automated packaging systems, and robotic technologies in a large, high-speed distribution facility. You will perform predictive and preventative maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. You will also have the opportunity to develop your technical skills on advanced automation and robotics while mentoring junior technicians and contributing to a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

• Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices.
• Perform scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment, robotics, and automation systems, ensuring all work is properly documented.
• Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment, including conveyors, motors, sensors, and related components.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, pneumatic systems, and other components.
• Use diagnostic testing tools and techniques to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.
• Conduct inspections, run diagnostics, and create work orders to address equipment issues and track maintenance activities.
• Support the repair and upkeep of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ensuring reliable and safe operation.
• Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to guide maintenance and repair tasks.
• Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic principles to troubleshoot basic input and output functions and control systems.
• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log work, track parts usage, and manage maintenance schedules.
• Track, organize, and store department inventory, including parts, tools, and supplies, to ensure availability for maintenance tasks.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues across the operations facility and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Mentor junior technicians by sharing knowledge, demonstrating best practices, and supporting their technical development.
• Adhere to Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and established safety standards.
• Participate in project work, including upgrades, installations, and continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment and systems.
• Travel up to approximately 20% as needed to support maintenance activities or training at other facilities.
• Perform physically demanding tasks such as standing and walking for shifts up to 12 hours, lifting parts and tools, and working in varied environmental conditions.
• Move, lift, and position items weighing up to 49 pounds as needed to complete maintenance and repair activities.

Essential Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2+ years of experience conducting quality predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on complex systems and industrial equipment.
• Experience performing maintenance in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, industrial environments, or similar settings.
• Hands-on experience running diagnostics, inspections, troubleshooting, repairing, and creating work orders for industrial equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues on material handling equipment, including conveyors, motors, and related components.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical input and output functions and apply electrical and electronic principles.
• Experience with industrial maintenance and equipment maintenance, including diagnostic testing and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
• At least 1 year of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for documentation and communication.
• Ability to safely move up to 49 pounds and stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Comfort working in environments that require repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking.
• Dexterity in eye/hand coordination and use of foot pedals, manual picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive wrist motion.
• Willingness to have performance tracked by data and metrics and to work in a results-oriented environment.
• Willingness to work any 10-hour shift as needed by the operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields (preferred).
• Formal technical training, apprenticeships, certifications, or military training related to maintenance or industrial systems (preferred).
• At least 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
• At least 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.
• At least 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
• At least 1 year of metal and wood fabrication experience.
• At least 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
• At least 1 year of experience applying electrical and electronic principles in a maintenance environment.
• Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety standards.
• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work order and asset management.
• Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance.
• Project management experience related to maintenance, upgrades, or equipment installations.
• Background in automotive, military, or industrial facilities maintenance performing diagnostics, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs (secondary preference).
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, and interpreting schematics.
• Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and industrial safety practices.

Work Environment:

This is a true contract-to-hire opportunity within a large, high-speed distribution facility featuring advanced automation and robotic components. The operation runs multiple 10-hour shifts, with roles available across all shifts, and all candidates must be open to working any 10-hour schedule as business needs require. Example shift schedules include SundayWednesday (6:00 a.m.4:30 p.m., 12:00 p.m.10:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m.6:30 a.m.) and WednesdaySaturday (6:00 a.m.4:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m.10:30 p.m.). The facility uses high-speed automated packaging and distribution equipment, conveyors, material handling systems, robotics, and a CMMS for maintenance management. You can expect to walk approximately 10,000 steps per day and spend extended periods standing on concrete floors. Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures (inside and outside), noise, vibration, wet or uneven surfaces, and exposure to active industrial equipment. The environment is data-driven, with performance tracked through metrics, but day-to-day work is not micromanaged. Appropriate industrial attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while working around automation, robotics, and material handling systems.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kent, WA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $30.11 - $30.11/hr.
