The Instructor/Coordinator - Elementary Education Residency Licensure supports the implementation and coordination of the College’s Elementary Education Licensure program. This role includes teaching within the program, supporting licensure candidates, collaborating with school district partners, and assisting with program operations, documentation, and continuous improvement efforts. The Instructor/Coordinator works with faculty, staff, and assist in ensuring alignment with Institutional priorities, as well as state licensure and accreditation requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct assigned classes of instruction in the best manner to achieve student learning; present information, ideas, and skills in ways that are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and that show sensitivity to a diverse student population.
  2. Provide students with the approved course syllabus and relate instruction and evaluation to that syllabus.
  3. Treat students with tact and respect, maintain collegial relationships, and work productively as a member of a team.
  4. Evaluate student achievement with timely interim and final performance evaluations and assign grades that reflect College policy and the achievement of course objectives as stated in the syllabus.
  5. Maintain regular office hours, maintain overall accessibility to students, and serve as a success coach to students. Maintain a high-degree of flexibility to be accessible and accommodate student needs, which may require meetings outside of scheduled classroom or office time.
  6. Maintain instructional quality and effectiveness through constant and timely revisions of programs and course syllabi within assigned content area. Exhibit an innovative approach to instruction.
  7. Maintain class records and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  8. Develop new courses and select and recommend appropriate instructional materials. Work to develop new courses using open educational resources (OER) in lieu of textbooks. 
  9. Due to the ongoing evolution of technology, this position requires the regular updating of technical and instructional knowledge, skills, and abilities through professional development or coursework.
  10. Teach courses within the Elementary Education Residency Licensure program using multiple modalities (traditional, online and/or hybrid delivery methods).
  11. Provide ongoing guidance, feedback, and academic support to residency licensure candidates to promote learning, progress, and successful program completion.
  12. Monitor candidate performance and progression, using data and documentation to identify needs and ensure timely support.
  13. Collaborate with instructors, mentors, and program staff to ensure course alignment, consistent communication, and cohesive candidate development across the program.
  14. Develop, implement, and maintain program policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure consistent operations and compliance.
  15. Lead continuous improvement efforts by evaluating program effectiveness and identifying opportunities for enhancement.
  16. Ensure program alignment with Institutional governance, policies, and procedures while upholding program integrity.
  17. Oversee compliance and approval processes for the residency licensure pathway, including monitoring state requirements, supporting audits, and maintaining readiness for NCDPI and institutional reviews.
  18. Manage candidate records and licensure documentation, including data submission and processes required for licensure compliance.
  19. Serve as the primary liaison with partner school districts, facilitating communication and collaborative problem-solving with district leadership.
  20. Coordinate candidate placement processes and work with principals and district partners to ensure appropriate teaching assignments aligned with licensure areas.
  21. Oversee mentoring and clinical experiences, including mentor selection, training, and ongoing engagement.
  22. Serve on College committees.
  23. Attend and otherwise participate in scheduled Department, Division, and College meetings and participate in graduation.
  24. Maintain currency in content areas through appropriate professional development.
  25. Participate in activities that enhance the College’s service to students and to the community.
  26. Use of College technology systems such as Blackboard, AVISO, accessibility software, etc. required.
  27. Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions with faculty, staff, students, and the wider community.
  28. Adheres to all college policies, procedures, and guidelines in the performance of duties.
  29. Other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Education required. 
  • North Carolina elementary education teaching license or eligibility to receive North Carolina elementary education teaching licensing required (i.e., expired licensure which can be renewed upon employment).
  • Doctorate in Education or related field preferred.



MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of experience in K–5 education required. 
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong organizational, leadership, communication, and collaboration skills required.
  • Experience with residency licensure programs, educator preparation programs, and/or state education agencies preferred. 
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and supporting teacher mentoring or coaching preferred. 
  • Experience supporting adult learners preferred. 
  • Experience in curriculum development, program assessment, and data tracking 
  • Experience building school district partnerships. 
  • Experience coordinating programs or initiatives and collaborating with school districts preferred. 
  • Knowledge of educator preparation pathways preferred. 
  • Experience with online and hybrid program delivery and higher education settings preferred.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending is required.
  • Exposure to typical elements associated with a biology lab environment.
  • The work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
  • In addition to regular office hours, the position sometimes requires overtime and/or evening hours.
