Testing is being conducted to establish an eligibility list to fill (4) current vacancies The Village of Glenview had 350 residents when it was incorporated in 1899. Today, the population is almost 50,000. Located in Cook County, the Village's fine amenities and services, excellent schools, 34 parks and playgrounds covering more than 290 acres, numerous options for shopping and dining and proximity to local expressways and commuter trains have made it one of Chicago's premier suburbs – a vibrant, thriving community that manages growth with success and style. It is the mission of the Glenview Police Department to protect life and property, to enforce state laws and local ordinances, and to provide services and assistance to the residents and visitors of Glenview in a professional and courteous manner. It is also the responsibility of the Police Department to work cooperatively with other Village departments to support the goals of the Glenview Village Board and enhance the quality of life within the community. Police Officers conduct preventive patrol and general policing functions to protect the health, safety and welfare of lives and property within the Village. Officers provide initial response to emergency and non-emergency service requests, investigate complaints, document investigation findings, enforce laws and ordinances, complete reports, and provide a wide range of public service activities. Officers may also be assigned special projects on an on-going or short-term basis, and are required to draw upon extensive training and procedural guidelines, mandates, and laws governing their response and conduct when determining the appropriate action to take in a particular situation. Officers perform other related duties, as assigned. Patrol Officers are assigned to a specific shift and report directly to their assigned Sergeant and Commander. Police Officer Application Timeline Applicants must register to take the written test by visiting the Public Safety Testing website at: Public Safety Testing - Glenview Police Department - Police Officer - Entry Level The Application Deadline Is Friday, September 25, 2026, at 4:00 PM All written exams and applications must be completed through Public Safety Testing. Job Summary Performs preventative patrols (i.e. via foot, patrol cars, bicycle, and/or motorcycle) and other crime prevention duties in the Village in order to enforce all laws and regulations, provide security, and detect violators. Performs traffic law enforcement and establishes effective working relationships with community stakeholders, federal/state/local authorities, other Village Departments, and Village officials. Responds to complaints, accidents, disturbances and/or any requests for police response, assesses situations quickly and objectively, and determines most appropriate response in order to prevent potentially dangerous or violent situations from occurring or continuing. Assists Fire Department on fire and medical calls. Investigates any reported crimes by gathering, securing and documenting evidence, interviewing witnesses, recording and submitting pertinent information. Conducts surveillance when required. Maintains records of activities and prepares reports to provide information to investigators and/or prosecutors or any stakeholder that may require use of that information; submits timely reports for supervisor's review; and testifies in court proceedings to present evidence and to give personal account of incident/crime. Conducts arrests of persons violating the law including physically detaining persons according to established guidelines and procedures. Responds to emergency situations and begins to administer basic first aid to injured persons as necessary. Performs various other tasks to assist other emergency personnel, such as crowd control, directing traffic, and other duties as assigned. You Must Meet The Following Minimum Requirements Must be a resident of, and legally authorized to work in, the United States. Must possess a valid Driver's License and must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Illinois Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday at the last date for filing applications (9/25/26). Applicants must be less than 35 years of age at the time of application (9/25/26) and when the final eligibility list is posted, unless they have been certified and employed as a Full-Time Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1. Must have proof of a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement. Must be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6 and must possess temperate habit. In addition, applicants must be of sound mind and health and physically able to perform the essential function of the position for which they have applied, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must not have committed any felony, certain misdemeanors, or crimes involving moral turpitude pursuant to 50 ILCS 705/6. Must be able to communicate fluently in English (including reading, speaking and comprehension). Must have a valid Illinois Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) prior to receiving the conditional offer of employment. Must possess a valid POWER card issued between 9/25/25 and date of application (9/25/26) issued from a certified testing agency.
