Weapon Detection WorkerThe purpose of the Weapon Detection Worker is to assist with the safe and efficient entry of students, staff, and visitors into a high school campus by supporting the operation of weapon detection screening systems. The position helps individuals directly through weapon detection systems or other screening equipment, promotes orderly traffic flow, and supports campus safety efforts while providing courteous customer service.QualificationsRequired1. High School Diploma or General Educational Development diploma (GED) or enrolled at a TUHSD school.2. Must possess and maintain a Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.3. Ability to maintain appropriate interpersonal relations with students, parents, and other staff of the district.4. Ability to organize/schedule own work and prioritize work based on the Districts' need and level of urgency.5. Ability to maintain records and equipment.6. Ability to receive directions on tasks as designated.7. Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.Preferred1. Bilingual in English and Spanish.2. 18 years of age.Essential FunctionsGreet students, staff, and visitors in a professional and respectful manner.Direct individuals through weapon detection systems and designated screening areas.Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient flow of students during arrival periods.Provide verbal directions regarding screening procedures and entry requirements.Observe for potential safety concerns and immediately notify administrators, campus security personnel, or law enforcement when appropriate.Monitor screening lines and help prevent congestion at entry points.Assist students with removing items that may activate screening equipment, following established procedures.Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with students and visitors.Support school administrators, campus security staff, and law enforcement personnel during screening operations.Help ensure screening areas remain safe, orderly, and free of obstruction.Follow all district safety, security, and emergency response procedures.*Only Certificated staff who have completed the TUHSD District search and seizure training may conduct a search of a student and/or the student's belongings when an administrator is present.Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesSKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the job requires 95% standing and 5% walking. Working conditions may require work to be performed in extreme weather conditions and some hazardous conditions.
