Mig / Tig WelderJoin a growing fabrication shop as a Mig / Tig Welder, working on diverse projects across automotive, defense, industrial filtration, and retail signage. You will perform high-quality welding and fabrication on primarily mild steel, with some stainless steel and aluminum, in a low-volume, job-shop environment that blends custom prototype work with some repetitive tasks. This role offers the opportunity to expand your skills, especially in Tig welding, while contributing to intricate assemblies and steel processing projects in a close-knit, family-oriented team.ResponsibilitiesPerform high-quality Mig welding on prototype and custom projects, primarily using mild steel and stainless steel ranging from 18 gauge to 1/2 inch thickness.Support Tig welding work as needed and actively develop Tig welding skills under guidance and training.Read and interpret blueprints to determine weld symbols, dimensions, and assembly requirements for welding and fitting/fabrication work.Fit and fabricate components by assembling parts, aligning structures, and preparing joints using tools such as 1-2-3 blocks, tape measures, squares (90s), clamps, grinders, and plasma cutters.Set up welding machines correctly, including selecting appropriate settings and adjusting temperatures based on material type, thickness, and welding process.Perform fabrication and intricate assembly work, including structural and sheet metal components, to meet project specifications and quality standards.Use hand tools, grinders, and other shop equipment to clean, prepare, and finish welds and assemblies as required.Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure accuracy and adherence to blueprints and tolerances.Assist with press brake operations and other fabrication processes as needed to support production and project timelines.Work with mild steel (approximately 85% of work), stainless steel (approximately 10%), and aluminum (approximately 5%) in various applications.Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area, including proper handling of tools, equipment, and materials.Collaborate with team members in a small-shop environment, communicating clearly about job requirements, timelines, and any issues that arise.Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new techniques, especially in Tig welding and advanced fabrication.Adapt to a mix of job-shop and some repetitive work, maintaining consistent quality across a wide variety of customer projects.Essential SkillsMultiple years of Mig welding experience focused on prototype or custom welding work, with approximately 75% Mig and 25% Tig exposure.Strong Mig welding skills on mild steel and stainless steel, typically from 18 gauge to 1/2 inch thickness.Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints, including weld symbols and fabrication details.Proven fitting and fabricating skills, including the ability to assemble and align parts accurately for welding.Hands-on experience using fabrication tools such as 1-2-3 blocks, tape measures, squares (90s), clamps, grinders, and plasma cutters.Ability to set up welding machines independently and adjust settings and temperatures correctly for different materials and thicknesses.Experience working with mild steel and stainless steel, with some exposure to aluminum welding.Capability to perform assembly work, including structural and sheet metal components.Competence in using hand tools, tape measures, and grinding equipment in a fabrication environment.Ability to work effectively in a production-supporting job shop while maintaining high quality and attention to detail.Strong, positive attitude and the ability to contribute to a supportive, team-oriented culture.Willingness and ability to learn and improve Tig welding skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsTig welding experience is beneficial and highly valued, especially on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.Experience with flux core welding is an advantage.Background in structural steel, construction, or sheet metal fabrication is helpful.Experience using a press brake or related forming equipment is a plus.Prior work in a job-shop or custom fabrication environment is preferred.Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and eagerness to grow within a small, expanding team.Comfort working on a variety of projects rather than high-volume production.Ability to adapt to changing workloads and support overtime or occasional Saturday work when needed.Why Work Here?Join a family-owned company that values its people and invests in their well-being and growth. The temperature can be cold in the winter and warm in the summer, so you should be comfortable working in a traditional shop environment. The atmosphere is that of a small, family-oriented shop with approximately 20 team members and plans to grow to around 45, supporting a wide portfolio of customers and industries. You will work primarily on first shift, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional adjustments to 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. depending on overtime needs. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as required. You will use a variety of welding and fabrication equipment, including Mig and Tig welding machines, grinders, plasma cutters, hand tools, tape measures, clamps, and press brake equipment, in a hands-on, shop-floor setting.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Warren, MI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
