Primary Purpose

The high school Associate Principal provides leadership for the administrative operation of the school consistent with District policies, procedures and programs.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Master's degree in educational administration

Appropriate Texas certificate

Ability and certification to perform teacher evaluations

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to coordinate campus functions

Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Ability to coordinate professional learning communities

Knowledge of crisis management and safety work environment procedures

Knowledge of facility maintenance and operations

Ability to multitask

Experience:

Three years' experience as a successful classroom teacher

Five years experience as a successful high school administrator

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Management

1. Using campus data assists the Principal in the administrative operation of the school.
2. Works with the Associate Principal of Instruction and staff development to provide an environment conducive to effective instruction and student learning.
3. Work with assistant principal on monitoring student attendance; notify parents and attendance committee regarding students with excessive absences.
4. Coordinates with Food Service and Transportation to improve their availability to students.

School / Organizational Climate

1. Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
2. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
3. Provide for two-way communication with area superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
4. Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognize excellence and achievement.
5. Ensures the effective and quick resolution to conflicts and demonstrates resilience during and after high stress situations.
6. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

School / Organizational Improvement

1. Participate in building a common vision for school improvement and assists in the planning of activities that will ensure attainment of school mission.
2. Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., Breaking Ranks recommendations) to promote school improvement.
3. Work with the principal and campus advisory committee in setting annual campus performance goals, developing plans for improvement and monitoring campus progress.

Personnel Management

1. Assist principal with interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff.
2. Assist the principal in defining expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
3. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
4. Make recommendations to the principal on termination, suspension, or non-renewal of employees assigned to campus.
5. Work with campus advisory to plan professional development activities.
6. Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth. Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.

Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions

1. Supervise operations in the principal's absence.
2. Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk and assistant principal and counselors on follow-up investigations.
3. Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
4. Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
5. Comply with district policies and state federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
6. Develop campus budget recommendations based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control. Accurately report fiscal information.
7. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition textbooks.
8. Manage use of school facilities. Supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
9. Direct and manage extracurricular and intramural programs including management of multiple activity funds.

Student Management

1. Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
2. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
3. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers,
4. Monitor and communicate to staff, students and parents student eligibility for UIL and other extracurricular activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

• Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
• Provide assistance to other administrative supervisors who are working with staff members needing an intervention plan for staff in need of assistance.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional district-wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
