Physician - EGS Lead - Marietta, GA

Job Title BC/BE Trauma Acute Care Surgeon – EGS Leader Location Kennestone, Marietta, GA (Level1 trauma center, northwest of Atlanta) Overview The Wellstar Medical Group is seeking a BC/BE Trauma Acute Care Surgeon to join our busy, collegial trauma team at Kennestone as a surgeon and EGS leader. The team includes 10 physicians, 24/7 APP coverage, and covers trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery. Responsibilities Cover trauma and surgical critical care for trauma patients. Provide acute care surgery services. Participate in the EGS call panel, covering clinical services as directed by the WMG ACS Lead physician (Trauma, EGS, SICU, night, backup shifts). Maintain an in‑house trauma/EGS call schedule of up to 6 24‑hour calls per month (or 14 12‑hour calls) with a minimum of 5 24‑hour calls per month. Support ICU rotation and backup call schedules shared equally among partners. Assist with quality of care within the EGS department, program development, administration, and marketing. Provide patient and staff education on EGS procedures and policies. Perform any other EGS‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Current board certification or board eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care (American Board of Surgery, American Osteopathic Association, or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada). Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery. Licensed in the state of Georgia (or willing to obtain). Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification (instructor status preferred). Experience and comfort with providing trauma surgical and surgical critical care coverage. Ideal Candidate for EGS Leadership Significant experience and comfort with Emergency General Surgery, preferably at a high‑volume EGS center. Genuine interest and passion for Emergency General Surgery. Prior leadership experience in EGS or related fields (e.g., Trauma Medical Director, Associate Trauma Medical Director, Surgical Quality Role, NSQIP physician lead). Desire to take a leadership role to grow and develop the EGS service under the direction of the Wellstar Medical Group Acute Care Surgery Lead Physician.
