Position Description The Bapat Lab at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) seeks a scientist to anchor a small research team focused on how systemic and cellular metabolism influence immune responses, particularly T cells. The successful candidate will have proven experience in a broad range of immunology techniques, including flow cytometry, mouse husbandry/colonies, cell culture, basic molecular biology and biochemistry (e.g., transfections, viral vector cloning, western blots). Willingness to learn and become adept in DNA cloning/sequencing, viral transduction, advanced microscopy, and other emerging methods is expected. The role requires independent experimental design, data acquisition and analysis, and synthesis of results into actionable research directions. Key administrative duties include purchasing supplies, maintaining safety and animal protocols, and supporting lab operations. Set up experiments with proper controls, acquire and analyze data, and translate findings into next‑step plans. Manage lab supplies: purchasing, ordering, and inventory control. Ensure compliance with safety, animal, and other institutional protocols. Collaborate with lab members and make independent decisions regarding research and lab management. Required Qualifications Specialist rank depending on education and experience: Junior with bachelor’s or 4+ years of research; Assistant with master’s or bachelor’s plus ≥3 years; Associate with master’s or 5–10 years; Full with terminal degree or ≥10 years. Research experience in Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genomics, Metabolism, or related fields. Strong writing skills and experience designing/formatting figures for presentations and publication. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and maintain superior organization. Preferred Qualifications Experience handling and manipulating mice for experimental work. Familiarity with CRISPR‑based genetic engineering, T cell biology, metabolic assays, and next‑generation sequencing. Experience with viral transduction of mammalian cells. Desire to attend research seminars and engage intellectually within the academic community. Active pursuit of ongoing skill development. Salary Estimated range $53,100–$188,200 (see Table 24B).
