Location: Athens Area Posting Date: 05/15/2026 – Open until filled Position Summary This position will serve as a Program Coordinator for the Fisherman First Aid and Safety Training (FFAST) Program being developed for the commercial fishing industry in Georgia and the south Atlantic region. The Program Coordinator will handle day‑to‑day coordination and operational responsibilities, serve as the primary point of contact between the project team and community stakeholders, manage data coding and analysis, develop and organize the adapted curriculum, manage training and certification of trainers, obtain US Coast Guard certification of the adapted course, recruit participants, assist with implementation of trainings, maintain open communication, anticipate and solve problems, and provide support needed for efficient participation of the fishing community. The staff person will manage the project office and produce periodic progress reports and other communications related to this project. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications Completion of a master’s degree in a discipline related to public health/safety, health promotion, occupational health, community development, or a closely related field. Or a bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to public health/safety, health promotion, occupational health, community development, or a closely related field and at least 2 years of related professional experience in project management and administration. Experience managing invoices, maintaining records, preparing reports, scheduling events, and maintaining databases. Certifications in first aid or CPR. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Ability to self‑motivate, work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and general computer and presentation skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, especially to translate technical information for practitioners, decision‑makers and the public. Ability to work in a fast‑paced interdisciplinary environment and develop productive partnerships and collaborations. Previous experience interacting with broad populations. Experience in data collection methods such as surveys, observations, focus groups, and interviews. Precise attention to detail and ability to follow procedures meticulously. Physical Demands Sitting or standing for long periods. Driving as needed; reliable transportation required. Potential overnight travel associated with program activities. Duties / Responsibilities Manage the daily coordination and operational responsibilities for the FFAST Program (40% of time). Coordinate with project team and external partners to pilot‑test, implement, and assess proposed training curriculum and other program‑related content (20%). Assist with identification and recruitment of trainers and training participants and promotion of training activities (15%). Serve as the primary point of contact between the project team and community partners (15%). Represent the University of Georgia at community events, professional meetings, working groups and collaborations (10%). Employment Status Limited‑term appointment, expected to end one year after the start date, may be extended contingent upon continued funding.
