Responsibilities Maintain custody and control of juveniles in a custodial security setting or perform related special assignments. Supervise and monitor activities of detained juveniles; maintain a safe and secure atmosphere for juveniles in a detention center. Take required actions during emergency situations and stand watch in each unit. Assist juveniles in interpersonal skill development. Provide support services for routine maintenance; check premises and ensure safety of juveniles; attend staff meetings, case conferences and trainings. Maintain the booking program to record youth's daily behaviors and interactions between courts and family visits to document disturbances and other unusual events of behavior. Oversee juveniles during program functions at detention centers. Complete incident reports and other documentation as needed; assist juveniles in complaint procedures. Attend staff meetings, case conferences and trainings as required. Transport juveniles as needed. Additional Information Position is essential and designated for mandatory operations; incumbent not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave. May be required to work overtime and any shift as needed and directed. Required to complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy (two weeks on job, four weeks at academy in Louisville, overnight lodging and travel provided). Applicants must pass a physical examination and be able to perform all essential job functions. Physical exam cost will be billed through employee’s health insurance; reimbursed co‑pays provided by department. Minimum Requirements Education: High school graduate. Experience, Training, or Skills: None. Special Requirements: Must be at least twenty years old; must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; must complete Training Academy within six months; must maintain licensure, certification, or other credentials required during employment. Working Conditions Work environment is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with convicted felons or in a juvenile detention facility. May be exposed to hazards and dangers associated with operating a motor vehicle while providing transportation services. Probationary Period Initial and promotional probationary period of six months (except as provided in KRS 18A.111).
