Job Title Mental Health Screener (PT‑Night), Somerville, NJ Location RWJBarnabas Health – 110 Rehill Ave, Somerville, NJ 08876 Department Emergency Screening Shift & Schedule Night shift, 24 hours per week. Part‑time. Pay Range $28.64 – $35.57 per hour. Job Overview RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a Mental Health Screener in Somerville, NJ. The Mental Health Screener provides care in the acute care setting within the scope of practice defined by the Screening Law and other regulatory standards. The role ensures safety in practice by maintaining a realization of the individual’s level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge by communicating with and utilizing resource persons and programs available. The Mental Health Screener individualizes the plan of care to address specific patient needs, works in harmony with other staff members of an inter‑disciplinary team, assists the Patient Care Manager and others as needed, and achieves the best service possible for patients. The position is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate support personnel and for consistently setting and evaluating priorities. Qualifications Required BA/BS degree in a related field, plus 3 years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, including 1 year in a crisis setting. Or enrolled in a master’s program with 2 years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, including 1 year in a crisis setting. Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey state driver’s license. BLS certification through the American Heart Association. Preferred Eligible to obtain a temporary screening certification number upon hire and obtain a permanent number within 1 year. Certifications and Licenses Required Valid New Jersey state driver’s license. BLS certification. Eligibility to obtain a permanent screening certification number within 1 year of hire. Scheduling Requirements Night shift, 24 hours per week. Part‑time schedule. Essential Functions Answer phones (e.g., hotline, business line) in a professional and timely manner. Communicate clinical information effectively with the screening psychiatrist/child psychiatrist. Communicate effectively with other members of the health care team (internal and external). Communicate effectively with the screening RN in charge of the shift regarding the patient’s treatment plan and disposition. Conduct a thorough ongoing assessment according to departmental guidelines. Provide patient care in a timely manner. Demonstrate professional behavior in accordance with hospital codes in the employee handbook. Describe the screening process and update progress of evaluation/interventions to patient/family. Document all applicable assessments and interventions in the patient’s electronic medical record. Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports in a timely manner (prior to end of shift). Complete screening documents in accordance with Screening Law and guidelines from DMHS screener certification training.
