The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity for qualified individuals interested in the Public Health Nutritionist position. There are currently two (2) vacancies in the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program located in San Pablo and Pittsburg, CA. You may occasionally be required to travel to various locations in Contra Costa County. Public Health Nutritionists are responsible for planning, directing and carrying out the nutrition education program and providing nutrition services to the public. WIC serves pregnant women, women who have recently been pregnant, infants, and children up to their fifth birthday. WIC's mission is to provide all women, infants, and children with healthy food, and the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy choices in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, thus enhancing the potential for all Californians to enjoy a higher quality of life. We are looking for someone who is: A clear communicator. You will be responsible for providing individual and group counseling, and providing nutrition education clearly in writing and verbally to clients Knowledgeable. You will be responsible for providing nutrition education, and breastfeeding support to clients A team player. You will need to have excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to work in a team environment Adaptable. License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process. Certification required: A valid Certificate as a Registered Dietitian, issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Experience: One (1) year of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience performing community based nutrition work. Substitution for Experience: Possession of a Master's Degree in nutrition, public health nutrition or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. CONVICTION HISTORY After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources Department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
