No Primary Purpose Perform law enforcement duties, including proactive patrols, responding to calls for service, enforcing state laws and university policies, conducting investigations, completing reports and other documentation, testifying in hearings, engaging with the community and crime prevention activities, and providing security for campus events. Job Description Respond and investigate complaints and violations to determine causes, identify witnesses, and preserve evidence through crime scene searches; arrest suspects, testify in court, and complete incident and case reports. Patrol campus parking lots, streets, grounds, and buildings to enforce the law and ensure the protection and safety of persons and property. Provide assistance and information as appropriate. Enforce traffic law and university parking ordinances, complete required reports, investigate traffic accidents, safeguard damaged property, give first aid to injured persons, issue N.C. Uniform Citations or university parking tickets as appropriate, assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and act as a first responder while coordinating with fire, rescue, and ambulance personnel. Maintain communications with local law enforcement agencies, emergency agencies, and the general public through established electronic devices. Perform other duties as assigned. Police Officer Trainee Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for a Police Officer I or who are currently in basic law enforcement training (BLET) may be considered. Positions at this level must successfully complete BLET and attain law enforcement officer certification from the NC Criminal Justice Education Training & Standards Commission to be eligible for advancement to the Police Officer I position. Licenses & Certifications Required Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer from the NC Criminal Justice Education Training & Standards Commission. NC Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification. Valid, current NC Driver’s License. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Ability to qualify for attendance at a North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Academy, including satisfying all relevant background check and physical agility requirements. For Police Officer I: Minimum high school diploma or GED, at least probationary certification from NC CJETSC, and successful completion of the appointing agency’s designated field training program.
