Senior Counsel, Litigation

What Litigation contributes to Cardinal HealthLegal provides the company with strategic, proactive, practical and cost-effective legal advice and services in order to protect the organization's assets, operations and image. This function provides legal counsel related to commercial, corporate securities, intellectual property, labor and employment, and regulatory law, among other areas. This function also litigates all company legal matters, manages outside counsel and manages legal operations.Litigation manages and resolves legal disputes, brings affirmative actions, defends actions brought against the organization, facilitates alternative dispute resolution, and prevents litigation. This job family coordinates with outside counsel during litigation and manages all phases of the litigation process from investigation, pleadings and discovery to pre-trial, trial, settlement and appeal.ResponsibilitiesOversee and support litigation matters and portfolios, proactively identifying risks, shaping strategy and driving efficient, business-aligned outcomesPartner with national outside coordinating counsel to manage various litigation portfoliosCollaborate closely with paralegals and litigation support staff to align day-to-day execution with litigation strategy and advance broader enterprise goals and prioritiesConduct fact development and legal analysis with an anticipatory approach, identifying issues early and positioning matters for favorable resolutionDirect discovery strategy and execution, including overseeing litigation holds, preservation and production of relevant data and records, with a focus on defensibility, efficiency and alignment with case strategyProvide strategic direction to outside counsel, ensuring thoughtful decision-making, disciplined case and legal spend management and alignment with broader legal and business objectivesRespond to subpoenas and other legal and regulatory inquiriesManage budgets for outside counsel and vendorsDeliver practical, business-oriented litigation advice that balances legal risk, business impact and reputational considerationsMonitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments, translating them into proactive guidance and preventative strategies Contribute to Legal Department initiatives, driving improvement, innovation and operational excellenceEscalates critical issues with sound judgment, balancing urgency, business impact, and legal riskEnsures consistent, timely communication across all stakeholders, ensuring alignment on risk Travel for mediations and arbitrations as neededLocationIdeal candidate will need to be able to work a hybrid schedule - coming into the Dublin, OH corporate office 3 days a week and working the other days remoteQualificationsJuris Doctorate degree4-6 years of experience in complex civil litigation, preferredMember in good standing with any US state barHands-on experience in all stages of litigation and alternative dispute resolutionExcellent written and oral communication skillsExcellent organizational and planning skills and proven ability to manage matters simultaneously Ability to work under pressure, independently prioritize and manage a high volume of complex matters and assignments, and meet deadlines in a changing, fast-paced environment with minimal supervisionAbility to provide practical, clear, concise, and pragmatic advice to legal and business colleagues, and problem-solving skills to provide solutionsAnticipated salary range: $123,400-$176,300Bonus eligible: YesBenefits: Cardinal Health offers a wide variety of benefits and programs to support health and well-being.Medical, dental and vision coveragePaid time off planHealth savings account (HSA)401k savings planAccess to wages before pay day with myFlexPayFlexible spending accounts (FSAs)Short- and long-term disability coverageWork-Life resourcesPaid parental leaveHealthy lifestyle programsApplication window anticipated to close: 08/04/2026 *if interested in opportunity, please submit application as soon as possible.The salary range listed is an estimate.
