Assistant Manager, Patient Care

Job Description Manages team members, operations, and patient care activities of a patient care unit during the assigned shift. Maintains a professional work environment that supports delivery of high-quality, patient and family centered care. Responsibilities Manages and leads team members, operations, and patient care activities within a patient care unit during the assigned shift. Collaborates with team members and nursing management in developing methods, techniques, and analytical approaches to patient care. Communicates, builds consensus, and guides team members toward achieving department objectives. Promotes and maintains high quality, patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Creates a professional work environment that encourages team member respect, engagement, accountability, and optimal patient outcomes. Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical, and compassionate practice. Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members during assigned shift. May conduct performance reviews and provide input into hiring, promotions, and corrective actions. Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational, and leadership). Educates team members in new and existing department procedures and systems (information systems, fiscal responsibility, etc.). Provides input on department budget allocations to nursing management. Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice. Facilitates continual patient care unit compliance with the JC, CMS, New York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPAA regulations and system, hospital, and department standards. Demonstrates core clinical competencies for the patient population of oversight to supervise and provide direct patient care. Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health. Interprets policies, procedures, and technical methods for team members. Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations that improve patient care delivery and team effectiveness using evidence-based strategies and solutions. Performs related duties as required. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related, are not essential functions. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required. Specialized certifications, as needed. 4–6 years of nursing experience and 0–2 years of leadership/management experience, required.
