Clemson University: College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences: Plant & Environmental Sciences Location Insect Rearing Facilities at the Entomology Cherry Farm Open Date Jan 26, 2026 Description The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PES) at Clemson University is seeking applicants for the Gregory Distinguished Endowed Professorship in Urban Entomology, a 12‑month, tenure‑track position at the level of Associate Professor. The appointment will include responsibilities in Extension (60%) and research (40%) and will be located on the Clemson University main campus in Clemson, SC. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Extension, research, and educational programs of PES. The PES department encompasses 59 faculty with various specializations, including entomology, plant pathology, horticulture, soil science, weed science, and agronomy. It houses 150 undergraduates across three programs and 112 graduate students in MS and Ph.D. programs. The faculty and graduate student populations are diverse and cosmopolitan, involved in projects across the state, region, and the globe. Responsibilities Lead Clemson University’s Extension, outreach, and community engagement in the management of household and structural pests. Develop a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded program that addresses stakeholder needs regarding pests in urban and built environments. Create a state‑wide, science‑based, practical program for integrated and sustainable pest management and training programs for pest management professionals. Collate with CAFLS and university faculty, pest‑management industry, Extension and state educators, pesticide manufacturers and formulators, state and federal regulators, and the general public. Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation, and undergraduate research, and authoring Extension and research publications with students. Encourage participation in professional development activities related to teaching and advising, and may teach courses and seminars. Qualifications Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related discipline is required. Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication and collegiality. Basic knowledge of laws and regulations related to pesticides and the pest management industry. Experience or procurement of extramural funding.
