Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of the Manager II of Fiscal Administration and Constituent Support, the Supervisor I of the Nonpublic Agencies Unit (NPAU) manages the certification, monitoring, and investigations of the nonpublic agencies both in and outside of California. The Supervisor I provides leadership, direction, and supervision of the staff responsible for activities required under state and federal laws and regulations. The Supervisor I works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff throughout the Department of Education.
The NPAU is responsible for annual certification renewals and new applications submitted by nonpublic agencies (NPAs); providing technical assistance to all interest holders including parents, advocates, local educational agencies, and attorneys; investigating complaints involving the health, welfare, and safety of students; conducting trainings; providing collaborative services with other departments; and act as liaison with the NPA Committee of the statewide Special Education Local Plan Area organization. Travel is required.
The Supervisor I oversees the NPAU providing direction and supervision to five Analysts and one Office Technician; determines ongoing work assignments and delegate responsibilities; directs daily work activities and special assignments; maintains timeframes to meet necessary deadlines; monitors and evaluates staff performance; approves travel and leave; conducts, arranges, and approves training; interviews and selects qualified and appropriate personnel; conducts staff meetings; and promotes collegiality and respect among the Division.

Working Conditions
HYBRID
This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.
