Job Overview As a Staff Accountant on the Financial Accounting team, you will maintain the organization’s financial strength and integrity. You will gain exposure to month‑end close, cash and investment accounting, bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and process improvement initiatives that support strategic decision‑making. Responsibilities Creates, maintains, coordinates and prepares general ledger financial data, journal entries and reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness of sub‑ledger accounts. Performs variance analyses on balance sheet and operating accounts to verify and maintain financial statement integrity. Prepares monthly and quarterly state and federal financial regulatory filings for CMS and the Ohio Department of Insurance. Prepares audit schedules, formulates variance explanations and provides supplementary data for internal and external audits. Assists and interacts with other departments to provide financial information such as account analysis and journal entry description, recommending procedures to improve work efficiency. Qualifications Formal Education Required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance Experience & Training Required Two (2) years of professional experience in a health‑care or industry accounting department. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent computer literacy. High level of attention to detail. Ability to manage, work on and complete multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to work and foster a team environment. Essential Functions Creates, maintains, coordinates, analyzes, and prepares general ledger financial and statistical data, journal entries and reports. Ensures accuracy and completeness of various sub‑ledger accounts. Performs variance analyses on balance sheet and operating (P&L) accounts to verify and maintain the integrity of the financial statements. Prepares monthly and quarterly state and federal financial regulatory filings for CMS and the Ohio Department of Insurance. Prepares audit schedules, formulates explanation of variance and provides supplementary data for internal and external audits. Assists and interacts with other departments to provide financial information such as account analysis, journal entry description, and flow of data prepared by other professionals. Recommends procedures to various departments to improve work efficiency. Other Skills, Competencies And Qualifications Good mathematical skills, decision‑making, and interpersonal skills to interact with other finance and corporate departments. Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with Financial Reporting team members. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and strong knowledge of Microsoft Word. In‑depth knowledge of concepts, best practices, and internal controls within Financial Reporting. Experience using General Ledger ERP (Lawson) software is a plus. Maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and financial records. Population‑specific competency: Ability to interact effectively with patient/customers with respect and dignity. Physical Demands Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled Salary: $23.22/hr - $34.83/hr. The range reflects base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Factors such as years of experience and geographic location are considered when determining the starting rate. The maximum of the range would not be typical.
