Summary

Client Corporation is seeking an Operations Research Scientist to develop advanced optimization, machine learning, and decision-support solutions that improve network performance, operational efficiency, service reliability, and cost.

This role applies operations research, mathematical optimization, reinforcement learning, and artificial intelligence to complex transportation and logistics challenges. You will collaborate with business stakeholders, software engineers, and operational leaders to turn data and analytical models into scalable, production-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop real-time, tactical, and strategic optimization models for network disruption management, recovery, and operational resiliency.
• Design and implement mathematical optimization, simulation, and machine learning models using Python, Java, or C++.
• Apply optimization and AI techniques to support adaptive and autonomous decision-making.
• Evaluate data quality, identify data gaps, and improve analytical inputs.
• Integrate analytical models and decision-support tools into production applications.
• Provide production support, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of operations research applications.
• Partner with business and operational teams to identify opportunities for process and performance improvement.
• Communicate analytical findings, model recommendations, and business impacts to stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Provide technical leadership and support team development.
• Lead initiatives focused on network resilience, service reliability, and operational recovery.

Required Qualifications

• 3 5 years of experience developing and deploying operations research, optimization, machine learning, or decision-support solutions for complex operational environments.
• Experience developing optimization models for large-scale planning, real-time decision-making, network recovery, disruption management, or operational resiliency.
• Experience applying reinforcement learning, machine learning, network optimization, and AI-enhanced optimization techniques.
• Experience developing and supporting production software using established software development practices.
• Strong knowledge of mathematical optimization, including:
  • Linear Programming (LP)
  • Mixed Integer Programming (MIP)
  • Nonlinear Optimization (NLP)
• Experience with optimization solvers such as Gurobi or CPLEX.
• Strong Python skills; experience with Java or C++.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience.
• Experience with model deployment, production integration, data quality, feature engineering, and model validation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of railroad operations, transportation planning, or network design.
• Experience with train scheduling, routing, blocking, crew planning, or asset utilization optimization.
• Experience measuring and improving transportation service performance.
• Experience developing real-time analytics or decision-support systems for large-scale transportation or logistics networks.
• Experience with predictive analytics, neural networks, deep learning, or discrete-event simulation.
