Digital Architect

Visionet is seeking a Digital Architect for our Retail & Consumer practice. You will own architecture and hands‑on delivery while serving as a trusted technical advisor to client VP/Director‑level leadership. The ideal candidate earns credibility in the room as much as in the codebase and brings a forward‑looking perspective on how AI and agentic capabilities are reshaping digital commerce. What You'll Do Own end‑to‑end architecture across the digital stack, covering headless storefront, CMS, payments, edge/CDN, and service layer from design through production Drive service‑based architecture design, including service decomposition, API contracts, GraphQL/REST patterns, and distributed system governance in high‑traffic retail environments Architect and guide the integration of AI and agentic capabilities into the digital experience, including conversational commerce, intelligent search, personalization, and AI‑assisted customer journeys Own site performance and optimization as an ongoing discipline: establish baselines, define targets, lead root cause analysis on degradations, and drive continuous improvement across frontend, edge, and service layers Lead architecture reviews, surface technical debt, and deliver remediation roadmaps that resonate with both engineers and business stakeholders Translate technical trade‑offs into clear executive narratives in steering meetings, architecture reviews, and written communications Partner with delivery leads on architectural integrity across implementation, and contribute to pre‑sales solutioning and account growth What You Bring Technical Depth 10+ years in digital/eCommerce architecture; 3+ years in a client‑facing or lead architect role Hands‑on experience with headless commerce including Next.js/React storefronts, Vercel deployment and edge configuration, and headless CMS platforms such as BrightSpot Strong service‑based architecture fundamentals covering microservices design, API‑first development, service mesh, and distributed systems at scale Payment platform integration experience with Adyen, Synchrony, Affrim, or comparable enterprise payment solutions Proven performance engineering depth across Core Web Vitals, edge‑side rendering, cache optimization, load testing, and uptime engineering for peak retail traffic events including holiday, promotional, and seasonal periods Working knowledge of AI and agentic development patterns: LLM integration, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), agent orchestration frameworks, and embedding AI capabilities into commerce workflows and customer‑facing experiences Track record of building trust with VP/Director‑level client technology leaders Ability to present architecture decisions and trade‑offs, including emerging AI capabilities, to non‑technical executives clearly and confidently Experience navigating multi‑vendor client environments with competing stakeholder priorities Thrives in ambiguous, fast‑moving delivery contexts and drives clarity without waiting for it Why This Role You will have direct influence over digital architecture at a major national retailer, a seat at the table with senior client IT leadership, and the opportunity to shape how Visionet grows its Digital and AI practice in retail.
