Job Summary  

The Department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Division Chief, Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support to lead our efforts in surgical treatment of advanced heart and lung failure.  This individual will oversee the already robust programs that include heart transplantation, lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.  This Division Chief role has considerable opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration in clinical, research and educational missions.

Position Highlights

• Join one of the nations top academic programs for cardiac surgery, transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support
• Practice alongside a high-acuity program with expertise in heart and lung transplantation and advanced mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, VADs)
• Opportunity for an experienced surgeon-leader with deep academic and programmatic leadership experience
• Partner closely with health system leadership, with meaningful involvement in financial strategy and operational management for complex surgical services
• Engage in and advance scholarly activity, including clinical research and peer-reviewed publication

Ideal Experience

• Minimum 10 years of clinical experience in cardiac surgery, including heart and lung transplantation.
• Demonstrated expertise in mechanical circulatory support technologies (ECMO, VADs).
• Accomplished cardiac surgeon with a strong record of high-quality outcomes and a commitment to patient-centered care.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop faculty while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement within an academic medical center.
• Works effectively with cardiology, pulmonary medicine, critical care, anesthesia, and other key stakeholders to advance an integrated, multidisciplinary cardiac program.
• Comfortable operating within a service line structure, partnering with administrative and clinical leaders to support program growth, quality initiatives, and operational alignment.
• Experience or strong interest in education and research, with the ability to support trainee education and contribute to scholarly activity.
• Opportunity to shape the future of the Adult Cardiac Surgery program through strategic planning, recruitment, and innovation.

Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Thoracic Surgery Fellowship
• Board-Certified by American Board of Thoracic Surgery
• Eligible for Texas medical licensure
• Strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
