Principal Product Manager

Azure Bastion enables secure access to virtual machines over RDP and SSH without requiring public IP addresses on the target machines. We're looking for a Principal Product Manager to shape its next chapter-helping customers access and operate their infrastructure with greater security, simplicity, and confidence.

In this role, you'll own product strategy and drive execution across engineering, design, security, and partner teams. You'll combine technical depth, customer insight, and business judgment to solve complex problems, make clear investment decisions, and deliver measurable outcomes. Your leadership will come through product direction, influence, and hands-on ownership.

• Vision & roadmap - Define the multi-quarter strategy for Azure Bastion, connecting customer needs and market opportunities to a clear investment roadmap. Strengthen the core virtual machine access experience and evaluate where extending secure access to additional workload types would create meaningful value.
• Windows & Linux experiences - Own the strategy for seamless RDP and SSH access across Windows and Linux workloads. Partner with engineering to address differences in authentication, client experiences, session workflows, and troubleshooting across browser and native client access.
• Enterprise, hybrid & multi-cloud strategy - Understand secure access needs across complex Azure estates, on-premises environments, and other clouds. Define where Bastion should invest, integrate, or partner, accounting for connectivity, identity, governance, and operational requirements.
• Build strategy & sequencing - Decide which customer scenarios, integrations, and access capabilities to pursue, in what order, and why. Balance customer demand, security value, business opportunity, engineering effort, and ongoing service costs.
• Product backlog & execution - Own and prioritize the backlog end-to-end. Translate ambiguous problems into clear requirements, success measures, and shippable increments; guide tradeoffs from discovery through launch and iteration.
• Security, governance & trust - Partner with security and identity teams to advance capabilities such as least-privilege access, private connectivity, session auditing, and enterprise policy integration. Make strong security and straightforward administration central to product decisions.
• Customer engagement - Be the voice of administrators, developers, security teams, and enterprise platform owners. Lead discovery, design partnerships, and feedback loops that ground the roadmap in real operational needs.
• Cross-team orchestration - Align engineering, design, Azure Networking, Compute, Microsoft Entra, and other partner teams around shared outcomes. Resolve dependencies and drive integrations that feel coherent across Azure.
• Service quality & product outcomes - Define and track success through adoption, connection success rates, session performance, reliability, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency. Use telemetry, customer feedback, and operational learnings to prioritize improvements.
• Adoption & business growth - Partner with marketing, sales, and field teams on positioning, packaging, pricing recommendations, and customer enablement. Reduce friction from initial evaluation through enterprise deployment and sustained usage.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
  • OR equivalent experience.

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).
• 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
• 6+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
• 5+ years of product management experience, ideally building infrastructure, cloud platform, networking, security, or developer-facing products, with demonstrated ownership of complex initiatives and influence across teams.

• Principal-level product leadership. A track record of setting strategy, making difficult investment tradeoffs, aligning senior stakeholders, and delivering results as an individual contributor.
• Experience scaling technical products. Evidence of taking products or significant capabilities from discovery through launch, adoption, and operational maturity.
• Technical fluency. A solid understanding of cloud architecture and comfort engaging deeply in networking, security, or identity. You can reason about technical constraints and translate them into clear customer and product decisions.
• Customer-centered judgment. The ability to uncover underlying needs, distinguish broad opportunities from isolated requests, and combine qualitative insight with product data.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
