Mobile Diesel Mechanic II - Overnight Shift - $3,000 New Hire Bonus

Overview Cox Fleet by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II. The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The incumbent continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques and complies with all company policies while achieving high-level performance metrics. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on electrical/ braking/cooling systems, starters/alternators, engine electronics, climate control, transmissions, clutches, axles, and related systems. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems (electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, engine electronics, steering, transmissions, etc.). Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges). Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation. Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate alternatives using sound judgment. Independently manage parts inventory and maintain company-issued service truck equipment; perform periodic reconciliations. Maintain and operate the service vehicle, including safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections. Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve issues, and satisfy expectations. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work activities and time allocations effectively. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks as needed. Document work according to company standards; upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company iOS devices and TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion. Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedules. Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs. Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve PO numbers, and discuss RO findings notes. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Maintain the company-issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections. Requirements High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years’ related experience. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties. Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months. Must comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) FMCSA pre-employment background check and DOT physical requirements; may require a DOT medical card in lieu of a physical depending on validity. Candidates must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority. Valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain/maintain a Driver Qualification File. Certifications REQUIRED: ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months. Preferred Certifications ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T8 (PMI)–and 608/609 as applicable.
