Function/Duties of Position This Dental Assistant position supports the Faculty Dental Practice and multiple departments within the School of Dentistry based upon clinical needs. The position requires flexibility and willingness to adapt to new situations and processes based upon the specific department that is being supported for each shift. Some potential travel to Russell Street Clinic as well as needed. Under the supervisionofa dentist, provides chairside dental support to dentists, dental students, or dentalhygienists. Prepares workstation, instruments, and materials, and escorts patient to the work station. Provides4 and 6-handeddental assistance support for OHSU dental practices. Retractsapatient's cheek, tongue, or other parts of tissues duringa dentaloperation.Assists with the placementor removal ofa rubber damand accessories used for itsplacement and retentionas directed by the dentist.Uses vacuum devices, compressedair, mouthwashes, and water to remove debrisaccumulated during operative processes. Prepares amalgams and adhesives.Reviews pre and post-operative instructions with patients. Sterilizes andwraps instruments and cleanswork station between patients.Maintains operatory equipment. Exposes radiographs fordental diagnostic purposes. Instructs individuals inoral hygiene techniques and preventative procedures, which may include desensitizingagents. Ensures work areas are stocked and readyfor patient care. Required Qualifications Completion of an approved Dental Assistant training program AND two years' experience as a chair side Dental Assistant in an Advanced Specialty OR Three years' experience as a chair side Dental Assistant in an Advanced Specialty Certification by the Oregon State Board of Dentistry for Radiological Proficiency required for all positions BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled in an OHSU training course and will be required to complete the course during the onboarding process Must have worked as a dental assistant in an advanced specialty within the last 5 years Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Why apply to OHSU?
